4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Phone- But not almost £300 worth (as of Dec 2012), 23 Dec 2012

I bought this phone at phones 4 u for £160, and it was a very good deal. However, it was a little slower than I expected at first on android 2.3 (gingerbread i think). I upgraded it to Android 4 ICS and this was a major problem. DO NOT UPGRADE TO ICS UNLESS NECESSARY. After upgrading to ICS my phone now has major lag issues with loading the homescreen after closing apps especially. Also, most heavy apps on Google Play (like NOVA 3 and Modern Combat 3) will not run on this phone. All in all, the phone has good battery life, and functions properly, i love the data limit function that allows you to stop your phone exchanging internet data from apps and stops apps from using up your credit on internet usage. This is a function that a lot of phones don't have. I would place this phone at being worth around £170, not almost £300 as currently priced.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good while it lasted, 18 Dec 2012

The Xperia arc s is a cheap phone that can really do a lot. It's quite powerful, runs apps and internet smoothly, has an 8MP camera, the battery life is good for a smartphone (sometimes 2 days) and the screen image is very crisp. That said, it is a cheap phone (comparatively), and cheap is something that Sony have never been good at. After only a few weeks I noticed problems with the touch screen, registering touches that weren't made or touches in the wrong place. Regrettably I put up with it for 6 months, as it gradually got worse and worse until it was completely unusable. Registering touches when I hadn't even touched it, taking multiple screenshots, and setting them as a background, which to the credit of my phone did look quite artistic, but still not a sign of a working phone.
Perhaps I was just unlucky, however, the main reason for rating this phone as 1 star is due to Sony's after sales care. I contacted Sony, booked a repair and sent them my phone, they had told me they would be in contact with me when they received it, but in reality they didn't contact me until I emailed them to ask if they had gotten my phone. They said they had received my phone, fixed it and sent it back and it should be with me soon. This was true to a certain extent, however all they had done was reset the phone and send it back, still a broken phone. I contacted Sony again, sent off my phone again, same thing.
While having this problem, I realised that screen faults with all of Sony's smartphones is a common problem, as is Sony's lack of customer care. This review will probably be rated as unhelpful, but hopefully it'll help at least a few people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arc S smart phone, 30 Nov 2012

This is my first smart phone, which I bought (sim free) as a replacement for a Samsung Tocco Lite, a phone that met my requirements for three years until it started malfunctioning.
I trawled through all the reviews and settled on this one, partly because the price had been reduced due to being replaced by a new model and the size and quality of the screen. Battery life could be better at one to two days, depending on wifi and bluetooth usage, I usually switch these options off when not using them. Both the camera and screen are excellent, I have had no problems with wifi connections and am very pleased with my purchase.
Most of my friends have iphones, which arguably is one of the best, but quite honestly I cannot see why you would spend nearly three times as much on a phone which in my view is not significantly better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Upgrade from HTC Wildfire, 1 Nov 2012

I finally decided to treat myself to a new phone, after having the HTC Wildfire for a couple of years. Everything about the phone is great, large screen, vibrant colours, good connectivity, and a lot faster than my HTC. I've used Sony Ericsson phones in the past, and they do make great phones, definitely a name to go by. I certainly wouldn't pay over-inflated prices for the latest android phones, when this one has everything I need, very slim, great sound and great camera. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Phone I've Owned, 7 Oct 2012

The title isn't saying much, as I've never owned a phone worth more than £50 - but to say the Xperia Arc S is amazing is an understatement.

Set up - Took no longer than few minutes to get all my contacts, email, network options sorted. Also quick to get all the apps I needed installed.

Use - So, so easy. The screen is lovely and bright, with text and images crystal clear. The Camera is pretty good (for a phone camera), and the 720p video is decent, but lacks clarity sometimes. Can't fault the phone in terms of how easy it is to use though; really lovely.

I've had the phone for two weeks now and it's not missed a step. Updated it from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4) and it works even better than before. I suggest downloading "Apex Launcher" if you want to emulate the look of Jelly Bean - and because "Apex Launcher" is a really nice app to help your phone run smoothly.

Overall - Can't fault this phone and wouldn't buy anything else!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but..., 26 Sep 2012

I can't help wondering how many smartphones some of the previous reviewers have owned. Don't get me wrong, this is a really good phone, but it's not head and shoulders above numerous others. I prefer the form and style to the HTC Radar I had previously, but I wouldn't say it it was a great deal better. The camera is an improvement, but to me the display and battery life on the HTC were slightly better. It is nice and light for its size - but in a plasticky way. It doesn't feel as if it would take much to break it. It does all the things you'd expect of a modern smartphone, and although it can occasionally be a bit laggy I've never had any problems with it. It's a good phone for the price and I would recommend it - but it's not five stars for me.

I've had mine for just on a month now. Prepay Wizard got it to me super-quick - 3 days after ordering - while I was in the UK on business, and it has worked like a charm.

I did the upgrade from Gingerbread to Ice-cream Sandwich (Android 4) after a week, and the functionality was retained 100% with no problems. I'm now using the phone in .za after using it with no problems in France, Switzerland and Austria as well.

It's a great phone, it's fast, the screen quality is amazing and it is super-light. The touchscreen is significantly improved over my previous Sony Ericsson, the older Vivaz Pro. I've tweaked the Arc with some new apps and shifted all the icons around so it's set up the way which works best for me and that was all dead easy to do.

My only issue with it is that you can't get accessories for it here in .za like covers or skins since the Arc S was not a popular handset when it was available, so none of the outlets have bothered with getting stuff in for it.

That aside, all in all, it's brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!, 2 Sep 2012

I absolutely love this phone! I had an HTC Wildfire S before which had such a bad processor everything I did took ages! Not with this phone, it's quick, stylish and by far my favourite phone of all the ones I have had! My only issue is it is little too big to fit in my pocket while I'm cycling.

This is truly a great phone if you can learn how to use it. It came for my birthday and I have had no faults with it at all.
