This phone is one of the best released so far. Its screen is one of the best I have ever seen on a phone, the colours are bright, crisp and accurate. It is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 CPU which runs at a very respectable 1.5 GHz, and is perfect for personal and business use alike. Games and other apps run very well. The CPU adjusts the clock frequency to match what is happening on the phone, and disables cores when they are not needed, so you get the best battery life and performance when you need it. The phone is also equipped with 1GB RAM, which allows it to run very smoothly, even with a lot of apps open in the background. An 8 megapixel rear camera, combined with an LED flash, and a 2.1 megapixel front camera are also included with the phone, and perform very well and produce very clear images, as well as both utilising an HTC ImageChip each. Beats Audio is included via the headphones port and gives music a little more edge. The phone uses Windows Phone 8 as its operating system, which allows you to perform tasks at a very fast rate while performing smoothly at all times due to its optimisations. Everything is there at a glance thanks to Windows Phone's Live Tiles, which brings you information without even opening apps.
The phone has a polycarbonate body which fits quite well in the hand and is highly durable, which is great for mobile devices which have a great tendency to be dropped, as well as making the phone feel premium. Gorilla Glass 2.0 is also included on the phone, which protects the screen brilliantly from whatever is thrown at it, be it scratches, scrapes or drops.
As with any phone, battery life is dependant on how you use the phone, and more demanding tasks will drain more battery, along with higher screen brightness and other factors, however, this phone has an integrated high capacity battery which helps it last as long as possible.
Overall, I highly recommend this phone to anyone that wants or needs a high performing phone which does everything in one package.

There are currently only 4 Windows 8 mobile phones available, this being one of them (it's Dec 2012 as I write this). There are 2 HTCs and 2 Nokias. Although I love the Nokia 920, it is significantly more expensive than this phone, which I estimate to be the best value for money. I was going to wait for a Tegra 3 WM8 to be released but then decided (after reading many articles on the subject), that the dual core snapdragon CPU in this phone may actually outperform the quad core Tegra 3 so I bought it.So far I am delighted with the purchase, it is fast and snappy, looks amazing and is so easy to use. I can't remember having to wait for it to do anything. The tiles are intuitive, amazingly configurable and allow the front screen and lock screens to be customised like I have never seen before on any platform. Windows 8 is just so much better than the other versions of Windows Mobile (I'm using 6.5 at the moment). It's definitely on a par, if not better than the Android and Apple devices I use, and of course it is much more open than the Apple platforms. Users probably won't care about this distinction, but us programmers do. The platform is just so easy to code for, any Windows programmer can write programs for this device with very little effort. If the App store currently has fewer apps than Apple or Android, I would expect this to change when Windows programmers realise this.
Watch out for the Sim cards (it takes the smaller Sim cards, in common with many of the phones that are coming out now. It is possible to take a full-sized sim card and trim it down to size if, like me, you cannot get your sim exchanged for a smaller one.
The only other negatives I can think of is that the battery is apparently not replaceable (but then I replace my phones before I replace the batteries so that is less of a problem for me) and you can't plug a MicroSD card into it (but then my old phone was 1GB so I added a 16GB memory card. This phone is 16GB to start with.
One final thing. I ordered it on 22/12. The website said "This phone will not be delivered in time for Christmas", estimated arrival date 28/12. I'd missed the last order deadline. I knew this before I ordered, as it is a combined Christmas/Birthday present (my birthday being the predicted arrival date). Despite all this, and having selected the free delivery option, it arrived before Christmas. So much kudos to Amazon and the postal service for exceeding my expectations.

I've had this phone since it came out, and I think it's amazing.Easy to use, feels great in your hand and really quick in doing everything, I can hardly fault it.
People need to go in store and try one of these out, it's a real joy to use and I love the new OS - there's so many improvements on Windows Phone 7 and I thought that was excellent too.
Improved storage, WP8, Xbox Live, Xbox Music, Office, Wallet, Skydrive and Facebook integration - I am a happy customer.
People will always criticise this phone because of its OS. People dislike anything Microsoft these days, and they'll criticise the Windows Phone Store for not having 'enough' apps. Well I would like to dispel these fears. From my experience, it is almost always the (forgive me) less intelligent seeming people who have a go at the app count - including shop workers! - the Windows Phone Store is full to the brim of great apps and games that looks lovely and work very well indeed. Indeed, I think there's only one app in the top 50 iOS apps that isn't present on WP, and that's Instagram which is hugely overrated. People need to stop stubbornly ignoring any product Microsoft make and actually give devices like this a go. It's fantastic.
I personally rank this above the iPhone 5, Samsung GS3 and Nokia Lumia 920 because it's a much more reasonable price and it doesn't compromise on style. It feels lovely to hold, a real gem in the bland iIndustry.
It's worth noting that this phone had a crashing issue in its early days, but this has since been fixed with an update.

A brilliant phone, has got everything I need/want and more. Windows 8 is a great OS, better than iOS I find and much better than android. Very good price, significantly less than the new Windows 8 Nokia Lumia and does all the same things. Had it for just over a month now, has not crashed, broken or faulted any way -- HTC do make amazing phones in my opinion. Would recommend to anyone who wants a phone with a brilliant camera, good audio (beats audio is great), fast and smooth OS etc etc. Love it :) 4 of 7 people found the following review helpful

Got this on contract through another company, had it for around a month now, here are my PERSONAL thoughts and experiences on the phone and WP8; I hope this helps a new buyer make up his/her mind.THE BAD
-youtube video player does NOT allow you to drag the play progression button to 'jump' to any part of the video
-Despite having higher pixel density than the iphone 4S and the iphone 5, side by side comparison of the same youtube video stream shows that the HTC 8X looks noticeably more pixelated and the colour is less vibrant
-Whatsapp app seem to have issues with WP8; can't seem to control alerts through the main settings (it vibrates when vibrate is turned off in settings), and messages will sometimes refresh only when you manually select the conversation.
-facebook app for windows 8 a bit buggy at this point; does not let you read extra long posts (just makes it disappear while scrolling through it) and it also just shuts itself down when messages are opened
-HTC 8X phone lock button, volume rocker and camera buttons extra low profile makes it hard to feel out with your fingers, I still always have to look where I am pressing.
-call quality (with excellent phone reception signal) is just average, I have experienced better more crisper calls with 'lower end' phones
THE GOOD
-slim and light body shape makes it easy to carry around in your hand or pocket. The phone just feels nice in your hand
-WP8 User interface is just beautiful and slick; there is no lag. I especially like the photo viewer app; when viewed as a tile on main screen it shows glimpses of the pictures you have stored.
-The traditional contacts list is merged with facebook data; this made it easy transfering contact details over from my older phone. Contact details are automatically stored with their fb profile pictures.
-WP8 allows you to customise the colour of the tiles and background; I am finding myself changing the theme every few days.
-Growing number of apps; I have not felt limited by a lack of apps at all. I wonder how many of the thousands and thousands of android apps out there are actually worthwhile.
-Actually quite a low price considering the specification it offers

I own an I-pad 3. Everyone I know seems to have - and adore- their I-phone. So I understand how an Apple solution could work for me, but I went wth Windows. I have to say the Windows 8 phone experience on the HTC 8X is an absolute delight to use.I loved my Nokia Lumina 800 and Windows 7 phone. But the cost of repairing a cracked screen made an update the only viable choice. And I agonised over a Lumina 920 or an 8X. I find the size, weight and dimensions of the 8X match my needs far better than the 920. Sorry Nokia, I, literally could not handle the 920.
What is there to like about the 8X?
* fast fluid and responsive controls.
* Brilliant, natural easy to read screen.
* Really comfortable to hold
* Crystal clear sound for calls
* Thin, light and hence, comfortable in a jeans pocket or suit jacket
* Set up took minutes and was simplicity itself - just insert you old micro SIMs card.
* Best sound when playing music I have ever hear from a mobile phone
If you are part of the Microsoft Eco System, a Windows 8 phone makes so much sense. Really tight integration between address books, calendars and messages. Anyone who has not used a Windows phone needs to see the use of hubs and ease of social messaging in action.
If there are regrets it is in the area of apps. DropBox and Spotify are on the way - soon I hope. I do miss Nokia maps.
Bottom line: if you gave me the choice of an I-phone 5 or an HTC 8X, I'd not hesitate: Why? I held my sons's I-phone 5 in my hand yesterday. By comparison, it felt heavy, thick and with way too small a screen.
My opinion: the X 8 every time. Absolutely no buyers regrets.

IMPORTANT .....Nowhere does it mention that you will need a micro sim card, fortunately they are readily available from phone shops. As for the phone it's a real step up, super-fast, excellent screen, superb sound and great operating system.
