I want to share my experience after one week with this Super Gadget!I am gadget mad & I think my other half would prefer me to work in a mobile phone store, where I can play and get given these items for free!
Anyway, having had many mobile phones over the course of time. SE, Nokia's and lastly HTC, they have all been smart phones in their own right with different OS. The windows ones unfortunately came to the end of their days as they would not be updated by the manufacture. So I started using Android, the most recent was the Sensation XE lovely build quality and htc sense is a very nice addition to the OS but the screens & battery life have always let them down.
So after many reviews with lots of Googling with research to boot, I chose the new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and I am not disappointed, far from it.
The screen is massive with excellent viewing angels and I can read the messages without out my glasses! The colours are very good, camera is brilliant with hardly any lag. Battery is excellent, I have been taking it off charge at about 8 am then flogging it with different uses, such as clearing data from my external card and it actually died at about 10pm amazing, so on a normal day, when I am back to work, I will probably be looking at charging it possibly every other day (will add feedback about that next week!) It also has many clever features like the volume button for enlarging text message text when in the app.
Touch Wiz is better on this device and Jelly Bean is excellent. The Note 2 is a gadget for the person who doesn't want to turn on their computer, it has everything and more that the standard PC comes with, except the mouse. If your looking for a mobile that will text, make calls for you, send the odd email then I suggest looking at something a little less taxing. Sorry, this is an all singing all dancing do everything except the ironing type of gadget! My overall verdict is 10 out of 10 looking forward to many happy years together!!!

My mobile phone background. Nokia e71, iPhone 3gs, Galaxy S2 and now the Ultimate Note 2.Wow ! What can I say that has not already been said apart from size.
This phone is Amazing. I love it.
My only major concern before buying this phone was its size and the day to day living with apparently HUGE phone. I must mention here that although it has a huge 5.5" screen ( which is absolutely gorgeous ), its very slim and slides into your pocket without any problem. It does not dig in to your stomach when getting in and out of the car either.
I have had it for a month and put it in a lot of different types of trousers and jeans. In a formal trousers, the phone hardly sticks out of my pocket. In a pair of tight jeans,I must admit that it does stick out but is surely manageable .
Another concern was holding a huge phone against my ears . Initially I could not get used to it and started using my bluetooth headset. Now it does not bother me as the phone has SO MUCH more to offer compared to many smaller screened phones.
A friend of mine got an iPhone 5 on launch , a month before me, and was laughing his head off at my choice of huge phone( Note 2 ). When we got together for Xmas,he actually checked out my Note 2 and secretly fell in love with it. Guess who had the last Laugh?.
These days one does a lot more with their mobile phone then just making phone calls. Hence the large screen is a major advantage for just about doing anything including Gaming, emailing , surfing etc.
Just check out one of many extensive reviews on youtube to find out exactly what this beauty can do.
This phone will easily see me through a 24 month contract.
You will not be disappointed.
Highly Recommended.
Hope you find this review useful !!!

I work on the basis that you can live with the good points, it is the bad points that lead to regrets. So here are my comments after 10 weeks use, and a lot of wasted time.1. No paper manual in box or on Note 2. I suggest you download now to your PC, check Note 2 does what you want and copy manual to Note 2. It's 139 pages, there is a lot to learn & not everything is explained.
2. Note 2 only takes microSIM cards. Most UK phone companies refuse to sell or give you one, unless you buy Note 2 from them. Orange & EE will. I wanted Virgin Media and got round it by getting a free standard SD card via their website, then viewing a YouTube video on how to convert SD card to microSD card, and getting the template mentioned in it. Cutting it to size with scissors is scary but very easy. Use the free SIM not one of your own with money on it. Once fitted dial 789 for Virgin to check it works.
3. It only takes microSD cards, & manual says some are incompatible, but doesn't tell you which are or are not. I fitted a Sandisk 64GB SDXC Class 10 microSD from Amazon & it works correctly.
4. I cannot find a way to install apps and offline Google maps to my microSD card, all go to the 16GB internal memory. This means you only use your SD card for your personal files.
5. Display is superb indoors & poor in the sun.
6. Internet downloads over the phone are very expensive, you will really have to set up the wifi to your router. If like me you have not done it before it is a bit of a hassle to learn what to do.
7. Note 2 comes with Polaris Viewer - NOTE Viewer, not Polaris Office v4.0. From the internet it seems Jelly Bean v4.1 cannot use Office, even though you can download, instal and start it, nothing then 'Opens'. Therefore I can't type on my Note 2 and transfer to my PC. Kingsoft Office is a reasonable alternative. S Note's .snb files can be saved as .pdf files & do copy to my PC.
8. Closing an app is a pain > Back button, Home button, long press on Home button, long press on app, 'Remove from list'. It would also help if you could go Forwards, not just Backwards.
9. If you leave your pen behind - called walking - it does not sound the alarm unless the Note 2 has been given a vigorous up-&-down movement. Walk away with Note 2 in your hand & it remains silent, the same silence if you walk with the S pen & leave the Note 2 behind.
10. Tap & hold Back button to get dual screens menu did not work till Samsung update was downloaded, it requests to do this when you first go on the internet.
11. Manual says some Blutooth devices may be incompatible. My Sony v2 earphones will not work with Note's v4 Blutooth.
12. Battery life is very good, so long as you remember to turn off Wifi, GPS & Mobile Data when not in use.
13. Speakers are good - loud & clear.
14. GPS works fine in Cambridgeshire. Google Maps need to be downloaded for offline use & only cover about a 40x40 mile square at a time, & is 80MB, but you have to go online to 'Find a Route'.
15. I bought a wonderful case on e ba y - search for 'KLD Flip PU Leather Wallet Pouch Stand Case Cover Samsung Galaxy Note II 2' - it came safely from Singapore to UK in 12 days without any problems, no Customs duties, & only cost £6.88
So would I buy it if I had known, yes, for the maps, satnav, camera, phone & MP3 player.

I bought a Note 2 on contract and have had it for 2 weeks now, and I am completely in awe.The user interface is silky smooth and responsive, and the display is large enough to use for prolonged web browsing. I've previously had an Android phone with a 4 inch screen and always ended up pulling out my laptop for web browsing as the combination of small screen and tiny virtual keyboard have always proved inadequate, but on this device there are no such issues. The display is large enough to read web pages in portrait mode without having to zoom in and out, and not only is the portrait keyboard large enbough to type accurately on, it also has a full 5 rows (number keys). I still have my old 4 inch phone and there is simply no going back. Even my wife's Galaxy S2 phone with 4.3 inch screen feels inadequate.
On the negative side, it would have been nice if some extra pixels could have been squeezed into the display as it is large enough for the higher resolution to make a difference, and I use Firefox web browser configured to request destop versions of web pages which largely assume a resolution of 800 or 1024 pixels wide.
Next although this device supports SDXC cards, i.e. supports cards in excess of 32GB capacity, most Android apps install their data to the internal 16GB of which only 10GB is free. Some of the most recent applications are huge and many do not allow application cache installation to the external card. This is easily rectified with an application called "Directory Bind" which allows directory paths on the internal memory being linked to paths on the external SD, but this requires the phone to be rooted. Currently, rooting is trivially simple using "Exynos Abuse" application but this might not be the case with later builds. This is a general Android issue though and only really a problem because device manufacturers seem to believe that 16GB is an adequate amount of native storage - it really isn't and base models in this day and age should host no less than 32GB, seeing as Nokia were offering this configuration 3 years ago on their ill fated Maemo platform.
With such a large display, one handed operation can be a bit of a strech, but as most people are fortunate enough to be kitted out with a second hand, this shouldn't be an issue. There is an option to enable one handed mode which squishes the dailing pad and keyboard to a designated side for those whose second hand will be occupied for activities such as drinking beer or other beverages, smoking or driving (don't try that!). Using the S-Pen of course will be an entirely 2 handed affair unless the device is resting on a surface. The S-Pen comes in useful in situations where a finger or thumb are just too fat (e.g. signing a document drawing a sketch or for artists, painting a picture).
Back to the plus points, this phone has many other tricks up its sleeve such as "smart stay" which prevents the phone screen from switching to standby while you are looking at it, and also auto rotate considers the orientation of your face with respect to the display, so if you decide to switch position from upright to lying on your side, the screen orientation will be matched appropriately and no need to fiddle with auto rotate switches. Pretty clever stuff which you will massively appreciate if you ever switch back to a lesser handset.
The camera application also has an impressive feature set and useful shooting modes such as best face, face detection, smile detection etc, and the speed of starting the camera and taking a picture is unbelievably fast.
This is an awesome phone which I can thoroughly recommend purchasing, but for obvious reasones I would encourage any prospective buyers to try for size in a high street phone shop first. That said, this fits in my front trouser pocket with no issues and after 2 weeks of use the size feels natural.

My May 2011 Galaxy S2 was stolen in Zanzibar last month where I was working, my own fault, should have been more careful.A Tanzanian colleague has had the Galaxy Note 1 since February and recommended it. I tried his device and decided the Note 2 would make a suitable replacement.
I have had my Note 2 for just over a week now and am well pleased with it. A common criticism of the Note 2 in reviews is its large size. Well, I have small hands/fingers and I have no problems in using the Note 2. I would not know if I look like a dork when I use it as a phone, I'm not looking at myself and could not care less.
The greater screen area and quality is ideal for a 65 year-old like me. It is so good I am going to sell my iPad3, I can do nearly everything I need and want to do on the Note 2, including handwritten notes - no more pocket books.
Speaking of pockets, the Note 2 fits in a normal size shirt pocket.
Android 4,1 Jelly Bean is great, smooth as it needs to be. Within minutes of entering my gmail details etc, the data and apps from my S2 came down from the Cloud, neat.
I have a slim cover to protect it, but will be getting another case which has an opening for a cord/cable which I can then attach to a lanyard/neck cord so that I never put my device down on its own away from home/lodge.
I was able to get a big DropBox allowance which comes with the purchase of the Note 2.
In addition I have installed the Sandisk Ultra 64GB Class 10 Micro SD Card with SD Adapter to maximise local storage capacity (I spend too much time on long flights) for notes, photos, video clips, music and maybe a movie or two. Some sites and users have warned about using this SD card, it is not 'officially' recommended by Samsung (I could not get any confirmation on a variety of sites). I installed it and it showed just over 59 Gb available immediately.
The Galaxy S4 and Note 3 will be along next year, I cannot see myself being tempted to upgrade from this current next year or even in 2014, anyway it's not a cheap device.
Now to decide which movie I would like to watch on this beauty of a modern device.
