This was a fabulous phone for two weeks. Then it suddenly lost charge, gave a warning and switched off.

From this point on it has remained totally dead. It will not charge and there have been no indicator lights even when attempting to charge or reset the phone.

I am absolutely fuming, I received my phone today only to find out they have sent me the wrong handset.

The one advertised, the One S features the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Krait dual core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, coupled with the Adreno 225 GPU. On the back of the box of this model it says Model: z520e

However Qualcomm have had a high demand for this powerful processor and hence a shortage in chipsets resulting in HTC downgrading to last years Snapdragon S3 Scorpion dual core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz coupled with the Adreno 220 GPU. This is Model: z560e on the back of the box. Despite it having a faster clock speed on the processor it vastly inferior in performance, and the graphics power of the Adreno 220 is almost half that of the newer Adreno 225 it should have had.

For those unsure about this do a bit of a google.

Amazon are advertising the HTC One S with the 1.5GHz dual core, search "GSMarena" for this.

However the one I received was the HTC One S C2 with the inferior hardware, search "GSMarena" for this.

HTC told all the stores who sell their devices that they were different so they could make the purchaser aware of the change in hardware, however Amazon have clearly not felt the need to tell me. I wondered why the price suddenly dropped down to £250 for a brand new handset!

I am absolutely furious at Amazon for wasting my time, this phone will be going straight back for a full refund. I highly advise people not to buy from them as they will no doubt receive the inferior hardware version as well. They better send me the correct replacement, or if not shortly update their advert on this page.

This is illegal, false advertising that breaks trading standard laws.

What an awesome phone. We already have a One X, Desire HD, Desire, Sensation XL. HTC make fantastic, completely underrated phones. This one is so very close to the quality on the One X. Its slick, fast, responsive and beats the all versions of the iPhone hands done. It now has Jellybean too so its just brilliant!

Don't hesitate. Its pure quality!

I shan't cover all the excellent aspects of this phone - tremendous camera, able to import Outlook in its entirety, slick OS sense but very poor at picking up the network. I will also say that the HTC repair service is superb. In a sentence it's a great gizmo but not a great phone!

I have had this phone a few months now and have to say I am very pleased with it. The finish if great, it looks sleek and very black which is my thing. The screen is very bright and its colours are nice and bright. I found the aluminium can scratch easily so got myself a silicone case to protect it and has since not seen any other scratches (my own fault.)

I have on a few occasions experienced the htc home screen issue that lots of you talk about while I was abroad (in the UK I am on the 3 network which doesn't use 2G so the problem doesn't appear to show), which happens when there is low 3G signal and the phone automatically switches to a 2G connection. This has only happened a few times and hasn't bothered me too much as I normally am in an area where 3G coverage is plentiful.

The camera is brilliant, I am a bit disappointed with the front one, but then again I never use it and the main 8MP one takes stunning pictures and videos. Have also used the panorama feature and love it.

All in all I am pleased to have switched from pricey iPhones to Android and HTC. Now eagerly waiting for the Jelly Bean update which should come anytime soon! Couldn't recommend this phone more.

4.0 out of 5 stars HTC ONE S- BEAUTIFUL PHONE, 7 Dec 2012

Sleek, slim and beautiful phone.

Not too big or too small, perfect screen size, the HTC One S fits nicely in the hand and is very light.

The HTC Sense is very good on this phone and it is very easy to use.

One plus point for me is the battery life. It is above average than the other HTC range smartphones.

Web browsing is very fast. Downloading apps is easy. And jelly bean is on its way.

Yes there is no expandable memory, but for me 16gb is enough as I do not carry my songs in the phone.

I recommend this phone.

Unfortunately, I can't say I'm an expert on Android phones (this one being my first), but so far everything looks in order. Not only that, but you get some incredible features with it: amazing, sharp resolution on camera, especially for a phone, a nice interface and operating system (not overly difficult to learn as a first time user, though I've needed guidance in certain areas), generally speaking it's pretty quick, especially for things like internet browsing, and loading up applications, and also the battery life doesn't seem too bad (I'd expect it to last about a day, and it seems to live up to that expectation).

There are a few issues, which I'm guessing will be present on any android, such as accidentally selecting and opening apps or settings you don't mean to, due to the touch screen sensitivity, but I'd think that's something you just need to get used to. Not only that, there are some things which are obscured, such as whether applications or processes are still running, and I've also had a few issues with losing signal, or internet connection without reason or warning. Generally though I'm hoping that won't become such a big deal if it's not something which happens frequently. Lastly, being an android, it won't take a regular SIM card, it only takes micro SIMs, something I didn't know at first. Being a SIM free, unlocked phone, I would have expected that to be noted more clearly, however it's not a huge problem as you are able to get regular sized SIM cards cut down to size if you go to a general phone retailer (the cut out-can also be kept so the sim card will still fit in other phones if needed).

Overall, I'm satisfied with the HTC one S so far, it's definitely worth the money. I've heard Androids can tend to slow down over time, but that's the same with any computer if you don't clear some things out of memory now and then, and get rid of processes which end up bogging down the system (simplest solution is to reinstall the operating system to wipe storage completely, or do what is more advisable and just do a factory reset).

The only thing I can fault is the delivery...
This isn't related to the product at all, and might not even be due to the seller (amazon), but I still feel this is worth mentioning... When I ordered this product, the HTC one S, under one day delivery, it was left on the front doorstep. No knock on the door, no signing to make sure it arrived to the correct address, just left outside, in a country known for its bad weather. This alone is terrible service, as it could even have been stolen from the doorstep, and nobody would have been any wiser for it, thinking it just hadn't arrived. I believe the company responsible for the shipping and delivery was UPS, although I'm uncertain. As stated, this is unacceptable considering the price paid for it (£300 delivery, plus at least £5 more to ensure it arrived on time) and personally I'm planning on making a complaint about this. Obviously I'd bear this in mind if you're also planning to make any expensive purchases, regardless of what the product is, especially if they go through UPS. Some people may not be as worried about this as others, but with how expensive an android phone is, I'm unsatisfied to say the least, I'd much prefer to have it sent back to some station to be redelivered the next day, even if the delivery people had knocked. To me, the fact that they didn't just shows extreme negligence on their part with regards to making sure the product successfully reaches the seller.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good phone spoilt by home screen bug and poor HTC customer service., 27 Nov 2012

Initially I was very pleased with this phone, a big improvement on my Orange San Francisco, my only criticism was a slightly weak mobile signal. However the dreaded home screen bug developed which renders the phone unusable if on an edge connection.

After talking to HTC customer support, I was told to reset the phone. This did nothing to cure the fault. After contacting HTC again the phone was then sent back for repair. It was returned to me still with the home bug (I`m not convinced HTC actually did anything). I contacted HTC a third time and was told there will be an OTA update to version 2.38 which should cure the problem. I am currently waiting for this update to materialise stuck with an unusable phone and am sceptical it will actually work.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great phone, ruined by the home screen bug and poor support from HTC, 27 Nov 2012

This is a great phone to look at, runs well, HTC Sense is the best 'skin' on the market. Great camera, feels great to use and comfortably competes with the best phones out there from a specs/look/feel point of view.

Unfortunately there is a serious flaw with a number of devices called the 'homescreen bug' this problem is well documented on the XDA forums. The problem only occurs when the phone is trying to register on a GSM basestation in the 900Mhz frequency range (which will affect most of the world outside of the US) and can be pretty annoying. In fact it renders the phone almost useless when you are not in 3G or WCDMA coverage.

Support form HTC is very limited, poor and slow. They have acknowledged the problem, said it is limited to a few devices, attempted to resolve it by varying success but will not replace the phone. I was travelling in the US immediately after purchasing the phone and by the time I realised I had this problem, it was too late to send the phone back to Amazon for a refund.

To summarise, great phone, unfortunate hardware bug, poor service and limited refund window period from Amazon. Will think twice again before purchasing another phone from Amazon, or an HTC from anywhere else.
