This phone is a Which best buy and I have now idea why - it is poorly designed, not intuitive but worse it is hugely unreliable. Within hours the battery turned out to be defective (a common occurrence when I checked on the web) - the retailer exchanged it quickly (the retailer has behaved impeccably throughout). Within days of getting the phone the screen failed to rotate from portrait to landscape and related to this the electronic key pad failed to work. I returned the phone and received the following response:I have received the Handset back from the Blackberry Engineer.
The problem could not be resolved I have been told by blackberry that this is an ongoing problem with the Torch 9810.
However they did give me a short term solution to the problem. please watch the video[...]
Whilst the slider is closed put your index finger to the back of the phone and gently squeeze with your thumb. This will bring up the keyboard and will also fix the orientation of the screen too.
I understand that it is not a permanent fix but blackberry have reassured me that they are working towards a resolution to the problem. ( As I have many customers with the same problem).
This is a damning indictment that RIM has kept this significant defect a secret and an appalling admission of state of this product from RIM - they know that this basic fault exists and have no solution for it (this functionality is assumed on other smart phones but for RIM it's beyond them.)
Save your self some grief and go elsewhere for your phone - don't buy and Blackberry and certainly don't buy a Torch 9810 it's rubbish

This phone is very good - until it goes wrong. Had 9810 for just under 11 months before it died - completely. Contacted RIM following a days internet searching for solutions, ( seems there are many people with the same problem), RIM told me "there is a known issue with this phone model". So there you have it. Luckily, having bought from Amazon they immediately agreed to a refund so 5 stars to Amazon 1 star to RIM.Thanks Amazon!

Having already owned, but unfortunately "drowned" a Blackberry Torch Mobile Phone, this phone was already familiar to me. It is an excellent product and there is little I can add to other reviewers remarks. I was surprised that the item delivered was 4G instead of my previous 3G model but everything operates exactly the same so I guess that this will be an advantage when 4G is rolled out in the UK. Did contact Seller for advice and the service was excellent. Would highly recommend both product and Seller. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great phone, 6 Oct 2012

I remain a fan of Blackberry phones because they work well and do what I need them to do, which is to make and receive phone calls and send and receive e-mails and SMS's. When on rare occasions I need to access the Internet on my phone then it does that very well. And of course Blackberry Messenger service is a good way to stay in contact with members of my family.I have previously owned a Blackberry Pearl (not my favorite) and a Blackberry Bold. However, the Blackberry Torch which I purchased on Amazon recently is by far the best of the three phones I have owned. I particularly like the combination of classic keyboard and touch screen and the option to use either. Since starting to use the phone a few weeks ago, I have discovered that using the touch screen is a much more convenient to manage many of the phones functions and that actually it almost renders the little toggle on the phone obsolete.
Battery life is very good and I get 2 days use out of one charge as compared to 1 day only on my old Bold.
All in all, this phone represents good value for money and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.m

I bought this phone because I wanted the benefits of the BlackBerry keyboard while still having the larger screen and touch interface. The Bold 9900 is out of my price range and the screen seems to small to me. Had it not been for that combination of features present on the 9810 then I would instead have gone for an Android-based phone. Anyway, there already longer reviews by Traffic and Joseph Grundi, whose comments I find quite useful so I will not re-iterate their comments. It's worth mentioning that my order via Amazon was slated with a long delivery time (3 weeks at least until dispatch) but actually arrived only 4 days after ordering.
Mine came with OS 7.0. I simply downloaded the Windows version of BlackBerry Desktop software and used that to update the whole OS to v7.1 before I'd committed any personal data to the device. (I've not had a BB previously so there was nothing to transfer across.) The OS upgrade took a long time (upto an hour) and the first reboot of the phone after the upgrade takes a very LONG time too - maybe > 10 minutes if I remember it correctly. Be aware of this: it's normal even if disconcerting to the new user.
You get an adequate selection of apps with the 9810 phone and it will regularly notify you as new updates become available. More apps are available on-line. I cannot comment on choice or quality.
The 9810 is a power-hungry phone and I find that even with WiFi and Bluetooth disabled most of the time, I still get only 1+1/2 days' life out of it before it needs recharging. Forget what the RIM say on their home page for this device - I simple cannot imagine how little you'd have to use this phone to get more than even a few days standby time out of it.
The packaging I got included a short USB lead (A to micro B), a European and UK power-to-USB adaptor for charging the phone from mains power, a cleaning cloth and some small fold-out paper items. No PC/Mac software is included (no CDs, DVDs etc.) but one can download that for free from BlackBerry's web-site.
I've had my 9810 for about 2 weeks now and I'm still really quite happy with it.

This is my second Blackberry, an "upgrade" from the 9800. I have always liked Blackberrys and the physical keyboard and large screen on the 9800 and the 9810 clinched it for me. I dont need loads of apps, true, Blackberry doesnt have as many as Android or iphones, but at least the Blackberry apps are secure, as is the phone, no need for antivirus software. The phone has a decent MP3 player built in, push email, social networking, Facebook etc, all in all it does everything I need. Some people will compare it to the (horrendously expensive) iphone but they really are 2 very different beasts. I've never owned an Android phone so cant compare it to that, but I LOVE this phone.
Its good value for money for me as being previously trapped in a 18 month contract with a awful phone, I bought this to continue my sim-only contract, to get the phone on contract I would pay over £500 and be trapped in another 24 month contract.
In summary, its a great phone, the OS is faster than the previous version, the battery life seems about the same, its still going after the initial charge, which wasnt a full charge cos I couldnt wait to play with my new toy.
I havent paired it with my playbook yet, but transferring my contacts from the 9800 to this was simple. I love Blackberrys so I'm biased:D, whats not to like?

Only just got this phone and still to work out all of the many features it has, however what I've seen so far I am delighted with. I cannot stand fumbling with screen keyboards but I do like the option of touch screen for other applications. The 9810 has both and both work very well, it is a little larger than an all touch-screen phone but not exessively so and the slight size and weight increase is a small price to pay. The screen is clear and touch operations just right. Speech is very clear and reception very good. I was a little concerned about reports of the screen freezing, it has not done so as yet and my daughter has had same phone for a number of months and reports on a very occaisional freeze, that is simply rectified by switching off and on again. So if you want a smart phone with option of physical keys, this is the one. I did have an Ericcson xperia, which is very compact but rubbish by comparison.
