It's my first Nokia device ever and I now understand why I was hearing for their great quality. This device is awesome, it looks very durable, I really don't care if it drops. I already dropped it a couple of times and I didn't saw any scratches. I've heard complains about it's weight, size etc but my only slight problem, is battery life.Software wise, Microsoft did an awesome job! It has nothing to do with the old Microsoft that you might have in mind. This OS is by far the most stable OS out there.

I got his after giving my Samsung Galaxy S3 to my partner. I liked the look and feel, with W8 OS looking exciting and freash. At first I really loved the fluidity and handling of W8 and Nokia phone - it felt so slick and operated with your gloves on! BUT!!! now 3 weeks inn, I see many basic features missing from W8 OS, esp after coming from SG3 and Iphone background:1)NO REAL VOICE ASSISTANCE: You can't ask it to set-up Reminders, Alarms, Timer, or simply ask various questions like: 'How many countries in the EU', 'What was the football results last night', 'What is the fastest car in the world'..etc! You be amazed how this function can be useful and now an expected feature in Smartphones. The only voice assistance that W8 has are basic: Web-Search, Call'name', Note'...'; That's it!!!. Also no voice use when writing except for Txt/Emailing - unlike Iphone or SG3 which has speech available nearly every where and esp good when you can't spell certain words and does not show in word prediction(which is not as good as Googles!) - so simply say the word, and that word will be spelled in inserted for you! W8 really has surprisingly been really stupid not to include this!! It has and does come in useful at certain times.
2)While bings/nokia maps are good. They are no way as well implemented as with Google's on Android and Iphone: Not quiet as informative, no Streetview(you have to get a separate app for this, but even then it does not operate with the fluidity and ease of Andoroid all in one Google Maps), no Latitude, no photos of interfarated info as with Google maps - esp when coming from SG3.
3)While Nokia does a excellent job of photos - there's not much that you can do with them! Again separate apps have to be bought again to do the most basic things that come with Android/Iphone. Again this a problem as you have to go into a separate app as it is not integrated with the main camera: So far I haven't been able to put photo's into my own albums, there is no slideshow, no burst shots, no real editing features, no location photo option, no face detection that can recognize faces in your contact and the view all images of that person, no option that allows you to send msg's/call/email people when looking at photos of that person in you contacts.
re
4)CLUTTERED CONFUSING TILES: While the tiles are nice on W8 and informative(not very though!). They certainly can get confusing. If kept at the smallest size, which will happen if you want to keep a few apps on the access screen. This is due no label at that size to tell you what that app is!. Only a Icon!!! Most tiles even at there largest size only give minimal detail - esp when compared to the Widgets on Android, eg: Sky News, Agenda Calender, Flipboard, Pulse, Clock(yes! you attach apps and other info on Widgets!), Weather..etc. Andorid screen is alive - not W8!
5)DOWNLOAD VIDEO!: You can't even download video into you phone as with Andorind (which gives you an option everytime), or Iphone that now has a app. So if you want to download a video and watch the video later from your phone - you can't. It does not store the video in the memory, so you have to stay in that download to watch it! This is just dumb of W8.
6)THERE IS NO NOTIFACTION BAR - you have to go into your email, msg, miss calls! No notifaction bar is just plain stupid to to be included.
7)Apps - while growing, simply don't offer much! There is also the habit if overcharging for apps that should have been naturally integrated into W8 phone OS. Also there is NO hiring/buying/watching movie, magazine, books on W8. Only Netflix. This is again so stupid on MS and W8 phones. Google and Apple certainly has beaten W8 in this area, as well as others.
W8 has many simple, basic, expected, features missing - yet offering nothing that can equal Photos, Maps, Voice Assistance, Notification esp when compared to SG3 and even Iphone! A good but badly stripped of features!

I bought the Lumia 920 on the recommendation of a friend without doing much research and paid a price for it. Let me start with what I liked of the phone.a. It has a great touch quality...in that the phone's responsiveness to touch is very very good.
b. The phone feels solid and is built well to absorb the shocks of daily use
c. I liked the camera functions
d. The keyboard for messages etc. was large enough (in keeping with the size of the screen)
e. The predictive text function for messages was very good and helps in typing out messages easily.
What I did not like of the phone - which I think are big negatives are as follows:
a. The phone does not sync with MS Outlook. This means that it does not perform the function of a business phone in any adequate fashion. While there are instructions on how you can use any Hotmail/Outlook account as your primary account and then use Hotmail connector to link the Outlook with Hotmail with your Lumia, this does not work fully. The Hotmail connects with the phone but not with MS Outlook. Also, if it worked at all, this would update your contacts and calendar (between the phone and hotmail but not with MS Outlook) but would not update your notes and tasks. Quite a let down I must say esp. since Nokia is supposed to be working closely with Microsoft on the phones. I just found this whole exercise of updating contacts / calendars so frustrating that I traded-in the phone in less than 4 weeks of purchasing it.
b. The battery life was a big big disappointment. I am not a heavy phone user. Maybe a few minutes everyday and a few minutes of browsing per day. Even this mild usage meant that the battery drained out by say 2 or 3 pm every evening.
c. Heating up of the phone....if I used the phone for say 15 mins on the trot (for browsing etc.) the phone would heat up quite perceptibly.
d. The phone display - apps etc.- was quite unappetizing. They all had a single colour (you could choose from a palette of colours but that meant all the app displays on the screen had to change to that single colour). You could not customise the colours for the different apps etc. The monochrome look of the screen was a put off.
e. The phone did not connect automatically with my car phone speakers when bluetooth was on. I had to fiddle with the car display panel every time I had to switch this function on. Very much the opposite of my experience with other phones.
The most irritating thing about this phone was that Nokia was making a desperate attempt to get people to use their Hotmail accounts as the base for all their phone usage. This flopped big time with me. This is my second Nokia flop, the earlier one being the much touted but lousy Nokia N97. I am never going to buy another Nokia ever. I am now happy with my IPhone 5 - which seems to work like a dream.

I've just moved to this phone from a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and am really loving it. Having had Android or iPhones in the past, Windows Phone 8 is a refreshing change. The live tiles you pin to the start screen are fantastic, and always a talking point with other people. You can really chose what you want to see, and it makes a nice change from the static start screens from Android and Apple. You can see live updates from your social feeds, live weather, a selection of your favourite photos, your upcoming appointments, live news......the choice goes onSome of the great apps included are Nokia Drive (navigation), Nokia Maps (as good as google maps in my opinion), Nokia City Lens (which shows you all sorts of things to do, places to eat, drink, shop etc from where you are currently standing......very innovative) The navigation app allows you to download whole country maps to the phone (it covers over 100 countries), so you don't need a data connection when you use it....great if you are traveling abroad and want to avoid high data roaming charges.
The wireless charging mats are really cool...no more fiddling to insert the small plug into the bottom of the phone....simply drop the phone on the charging mat, pillow or stand and it charges wirelessly.....just grab it and go when you want....no more cables.
The screen is fantastic, actually higher resolution than the iPhone with retina display...so it's really crisp and sharp. It's really sensitive and easy to type on and use.....even with gloves on which other phones can't do. The black is really black, and it gives the display a really high quality feel.
Even though there aren't as many apps available for it as for android or apple, there are still over 120,000 in the App Store already. I've always been an app junkie, and I can still find more then enough to keep me entertained. More apps coming all the time.....and virtually all major/mainstream ones are already in place. One good feature of the App Store is if the app is a paid app and costs money you can usually try it for free first, unlike apple of android, when you pay straight away (or refund it within 15 mins on Android). If you decide you like the app you can then upgrade it later or remove it if its not for you and have wasted nothing.
Nokia are putting a lot of development behind this phone....its make or break in the smartphone market for them, so lots of apps and updates they develop themself for the lumia range, virtually always free to lumia owners....they give a lot away that other manufacturers would charge for as extras! Nokia are working with a lot of developers and paying them to develop apps, and then these are exclusive to the Nokia Lumia for a while before they are released more generally to other Windows Phone users (HTC, Samsung...)
One of the best features of all is Nokia music.....this allows you to have free mixes either streaming or even downloaded to the phone for no cost. There are hundreds of playlists available and based on your music tastes (from Classical to ElectroSwing to the Austrian charts to heavy metal and everything in between) its a fantastic way to find new music you like for free. You can pay for a monthly upgrade for 3.99 and then the possibilities are endless. There is a free one week trial, which everyone should try and if you like music you will be sold on it!
All in all a great phone, and so different than the main apple and android offerings. Apple and Android are good, dont get me wrong, but this is better, and as more apps and functionality come out it goes from strength to strength.
Dare to be different, and try a Lumia!!!

The phone may feel heavy to some people. However, their isn't much difference in weight to the iPhone 4S with a case. The phone is very intuitive, as it links all emails and social media together, and adds friends lists into your contacts. It also allows you to put your favourite apps on one page, with the added bonus of live tiles. Furthermore, if you have loads of apps you can hold down the hash key in the app menu, which brings up the A-Z of apps. Once you are in the A-Z menu it lights up the letters which have apps. Some apps even support voice commands, for example, by holding down the windows button and saying "TVCatchup play Channel 5", it opens the app on Channel 5. You can also call friends (for example say "Call Dave mobile") or find things in your town (for example say "Find supermarket in Leeds"), and it will show you list of all supermarkets, or simply click on the map and it will show you all of them with directions. In addition, the phone has some really good quality apps.
The phone comes preloaded with:
Nokia Music (FREE unlimited 'music mixes' to play or download)
Here City Lens (shows points of interest through your camera lens)
Here Drive (turn by turn satnav)
Here Maps (like Google earth)
Office
OneNote
*Or you can go to the app store and install:
Here Transit (journey planner that shows nearby transport)
Panorama (like panorama mode on the iPhone 5 and Photo Sphere on Android)
Ask Ziggy' or Maluuba (personal assistants similar to 'Siri')
Furthermore, the battery life is good and lasts over 8 hours (with heavy use), with apps running in the background. However, the more apps you use will obviously drain the battery quicker. Pressing the back key after opening each app will close them, thus save power. In addition, if you forget to close apps you can turn on battery saver (found in the settings menu). This turns off apps until you use them again. The advanced setting gives you three options for conserving battery (When battery is low / Now until next charge / Always). You can also go to applications (swipe to the left or right in settings) and block apps from running in the background.
In conclusion, Windows 8 OS on the Nokia Lumia 920 is slick and easy to use, which makes the iPhone 5 iOS and android OS look really outdated and cluttered. Furthermore, this phone is very strong and stylish compared to other phones. In my opinion, this is the best phone on the market even if it doesn't have as many apps - I go for quality such as Nokia maps, and not quantity! Would I recommend this phone to family and friends? YES

On unpacking the phone, I was impressed by the look and feel. The weight and smooth texture all conveyed quality. On inserting a SIM and turning on, the good impression continued. The Windows phone interface looked good, and was completely intuitive to use. Set up was a piece of cake, including my contacts and calendar from Gmail.
One day in, the thing crashed and would not fire up again. A bit of Googling, and I found out how to reset the phone. Phew, back again. Unfortunately, this wasn't the end. Every once in a while, it happened again. Then, after a S/W update at the beginning of March 2013, it got a lot worse, crashing every few hours. Reading the forums showed that this is a very common problem with this phone.
A PC freezing is one thing, but a phone doing this is just not acceptable. It is a basic piece of communications equipment that you need to be able to rely on. Without constantly checking, you just have no way of knowing whether the Lumia 920 is alive or whether you are without a phone.
It just had to go back, as it really is not fit for purpose. The seller didn't quibble & refunded the full cost plus all postage costs.
NOKIA are pinning their hopes for a revival in fortune on this flagship handset. Sorry, this just doesn't do it. A potentially excellent product is rendered completely useless by poor software and even worse, poor testing. I am back with my iPhone 4, and after getting burned by Nokia/Microsoft, I'll be going along the Apple upgrade path.

Looking at some of the reviews below, I can't really add much more, personally though I was very impressed and would recommend this phone to anyone. My previous two phones ran on Android and at the time I was impressed, over time though I did tended to find that phones occasionally became un-responsive and eventually needed a factory-reset, very annoying.
I thought it was time for a change, I'm very pleased with this phone, it's very responsive, easy to navigate, less apps but I've found all the apps that I need with some of the gaps like navigation filled in with Nokia software which is bundled with it, the bundled apps have turn out to be quite good, they do the job without any hassle at all.
I've never had an IPhone so I can't really compare, but I'm assuming the IPhone doesn't have office products or games that are linked to XBox, you are able control the XBox with the phone which is especially useful when needing to type something using the keyboard, and its very easy to connect, also, I haven't tried this but apparently some games can use it as an extra control. It is bundled with very basic versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and because I save sync all my Uni notes/assignments to Skydrive, I'm able to view them on my phone. Apart from OneNote though, it's not really practical to edit/create documents using the phone.
The battery life hasn't been great so far but I have been using it constantly and charging it every night, the phone easily handles music and videos, and taking a photo is very quick, just hold down the camera button even when locked and it'll be ready, photos can be synced to Skydrive as you'd expect.
Finally, making calls, text messages, social networking, all seems to work well, you're favourite people can be pinned to the main screen, the keyboard is nice to use, that's about it really.
I must also add that it works very will with windows 8, which is also good.

As you would expect from Nokia this phone is of superior construction. Display is awesome and so is the camera. User interface is intuitive compared with the old Symbian generation. This is my idea of what a smart phone should be - so easy to setup. Links with my car, connects to Wifi network, no problem! Found plenty of apps which I have hardly had time to play with.Only thing I would like to see updated is custom ringtones for email, texts etc where as right now can only add custom tones for contacts.
