Bought this phone in order to replace my galaxy S2 which has been ruined by Samsung's updates. I was unsure about going WP7 as its not a popular choice compared to iOS or android. Managed to find a good deal on a second hand Titan from amazon (big thanks to the seller).HTC have almost always made their phones to have a premium, super expensive high end feel to them, and this phone is no exception. The entire body of the phone apart from the screen (obviously) is a single piece of aluminium (this is known as a unibody design) with a rubber finish at the bottom right where the antenna is, and at the top around the power button and headphone jack. This makes it pretty weighty in the hand but to me this is nice as my galaxy s2 felt like a strip of plastic with glass on top, which reminds me, the screen on the Titan is also gorilla glass, meaning its very tough and resistant to scratching. The back clips on and off easily by pressing a button at the very bottom of the phone, which you then simply slide the back off. There is no expandable memory option on this phone, although I believe unless you plan to store your entire music library on your phone 11gig should be more than enough. This HTC uses a 1.5Ghz qualcomm snapdragon processor, HTC have been using these processors for quite some time now and in all the phones I know of they were all fast, this one in screamingly fast and keeps up with any dual core in normal use, its unbelievably smooth when navigating the OS. This phone also has 512mb of RAM which compared to today's modern phones is very little, however the Titan has an ace up its sleeve, when multitasking, and you leave an app, the OS suspends that app rather than leaving it running in the background which means the apps don't use up the RAM, meaning this phone makes the most of what it has.
So what about windows phone 7? I've tried every OS for a phone apart from blackberry OS and iOS, including winmo 6.5, which was terrible so some people may think WP7 is more of the same? Nope! The OS uses live tiles which link everything you do in the phone to everything you do elsewhere, this makes the OS probably the most intuitive and the easiest to use. If your a fan of personalizing everything you do the OS offers a range of colours for your live tiles and you can also move each around, but as far as home screen backgrounds go, its either black or white. Want to check Facebook/Twitter? simply press the people tile and everything involving those accounts is linked into one. The built in Xbox live app lets you easily access your account through the phone where you can check your achievements edit your avatar and even purchase games. Internet explorer isn't perfect but so far I've never experienced a problem with it. As I've seen in some reviews people are confused as to why the address bar, which is traditionally at the top is in fact at the very bottom of the screen, I think I have an answer, its so that if your using the phone 1 handed, your thumb can easily tap the address bar without having to stretch across the massive 4.7" display. Zune handles the updates of the phone, unlike the old HTC 6.5's you don't have to download and install updates yourself, download Zune, plug your phone in and away you go, mine received 5 updates right from the start, which worried me as I've had bad experiences with Samsung Kies, however the phone is working brilliantly just like before.
The camera on the Titan is excellent, HTC are so pleased with the camera installed on this phone they used the same one for its other high end devices such as the sensation XL. I've snapped a few shots in fairly low light and in bright light and they always come out with an awesome level of detail. A downfall that may be relevant to some users is due to the processor only being a single core, the phone is unable to shoot video in full 1080p, the highest it can go is 720p.
So how is the HTC titan when it comes to its number one job? Being a phone? The short answer is its fantastic. I find call quality to be crystal clear and far superior to my old phone, even on one bar of signal, I've never had a call randomly drop yet due to low signal. Text messaging is also a breeze thanks to the WP7 keyboard, I have no idea how it does it but it just seems to always work and I've rarely made a mistake on it. There is only one flaw, which I haven't seen yet, apparently if you grip the bottom of the phone tightly it blocks the antenna and it loses signal, though I haven't noticed this as of yet.
The final verdict. HTC have made some pretty disappointing phones in their time but every so often they dream up something special, and whilst this Titan doesn't have everything its definitely one of the greats. The quality of the parts used as well as the premium body and the simplicity of the OS make this phone something everyone should consider, this to me is designed simply to make you happy, and give you just as much power as the likes of an iPhone or even the Samsung galaxy series, so this is something you can show off to your iOS and android loving friends whilst they fumble about trying to find the right app they downloaded 6 months ago to access something you can at the touch of a live tile. Find this phone for under 500 and you've got a bargain.

The HTC Titan is a fantastic phone. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the interface software Zune so if you want to add apps then you might need lots of patience. Once you have overcome the needless Microsoft hurdles then the range of apps available is great. If you are an inexperienced user of smart phones looking for your first purchase, and certainly won't want any extra software, then after someone has shown you what to do... you will probably be pleased with your purchase. If you are a big windows fan then this is the phone for you.
For everyone else then this phone (or more precisely microsoft) will probably test your patience as you try to load new apps for the first time.
Good points:
Just about all the hardware is perfect. The screen, camera, phone, ... all great. The screen is sharp, bright, clear. The camera takes great pictures. Handset size is big, but you do get used to it, and benefit from the bigger screen. Battery life up to 2 days with moderate use.
Most of the software that comes pre-loaded is good too. Everything about this phone is great until the first time you want to add apps.
The bad points.
In short this can be summed up as Zune / Windows Live interface, and in some minor cases the windows o/s.
I didn't want an overly complicated experience and hours spent with the phone plugged into the PC whilst trying to get apps loaded, but that is what I got when I bought this phone.
The pre-loaded software is great. It is just enough for a first-time user of smart phones. But after a while you will want to add apps, and at that point be prepared for an endurance test. With the exception of adding music to the phone, nothing about Zune is intuitive.
I expected to be able to load new apps from the phone itself, but until you have overcome the zune / windows live /x-box set-up processes the phone rejects any attempts to buy apps, insisting that the profile is not set up to do so. Finding your way into and around the Zune menus, attempting to overcome these blocks, seemed close to impossible. Only with the help of user forums did I eventually work out why there was a problem.
Also Windows Live seemed obsessed with security checks; before I could continue passcodes were emailed to me, but the emails took many minutes to arrive and the windows live security check webpage had timed out, eventually I had to reset passwords and start again.
If microsoft get their act together and provide interface software that is clear, simple, and works first time, then this could be one of the best phones on the market.
UPDATE 11Oct2012:
After much searching of forums I found why I was struggling with loading new apps. A cautionary tale to all: When setting up the first Windows Live email address on the phone it must be exactly the same as the email address used to access Zune (and Windows Live, and X-box websites). You can never change it, and you cannot add valid email addresses as second accounts on the phone. If you get this wrong you will never be able to load new apps. AND at a later date if you want to change your email address it can only be done by a 'reset to factory settings', and of course you will then lose all the music, apps, contacts etc that you added.

a must have windows phone blazing fast compared to the hardware specification. the transition are so smooth you will not feel that the phone has a 512mb ram and runs on a single core processor with clock speed touching 1ghz. people who are thinking about nokia and display should not bother for screen comparison as the super lcd + is very good comparable to super amoled +.this is a great bargain go for it people

I received my HTC titan the very next day after ordering, which was fantastic. I really enjoy this phone, the only issue is the camera, which I think is of slightly poor quality than other products on the market, however that is no fault of the seller. I like everything else about the phone, I can personalise it to suite my mood, get instant access to e-mails, facebook and messenger on the go, which is fantastic. I haven't yet used the microsoft office programs but I am sure I will do soon as this was the main reason for me buying a windows phone. Enjoying the phone! no real complaints! 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful

First of all I would like you to ignore all the hype behind the Windows Phone 8 OS and Mango (7.5) users not getting it. The phone will get all of the features in an update called 7.8 but only the features that matter. EG Windows Phone 8 supports dual core processors, SD card etc. all which our current range of phones do not have or require so is not included in 7.8.Moving from a HTC Desire running Android Gingerbread 2.3 this is a step in the right direction. There are over 100,000 apps on the Windows Marketplace and I have found every app I could possibly want or need so you can ignore all the trash about the apps not being there too.
When I got this phone I thought it was huge, but it's huge in a beautiful way, the screen is LCD and so the white and blacks are way more accurate than that of the trashy AMOLED found on the Galaxy S2. Pixel count isn't noticeable because the LCD is just gorgeous.
I wanted a simple phone which done the job and Windows 7.5 is right in there, iOS is too simple and Android is too complicated. Windows 7.5 checks all the boxes. Notifications are on the Live Tiles so there is no notification screen and I've found this to be quite intuitive, now I don't spend half of my time looking at a notification menu. The OS is incredibly smooth, there is no lag or even a hint of lag, it feels far superior to anything I've ever tried.
Here are some of the best features about my HTC Titan and the Windows Phone 7.5 OS...
1) Camera Button - You heard that right Android/iPhone users. Yes you can still touch your screen if you wanted too, it's just nice to have a button.
2) Xbox Live - Now I can play mobile games and earn G points all at the same time, it ties in to Xbox Live really well.
3) Internet Explorer - By far the best browser I've seen on a mobile (you heard that right), it's so fast and fluid, and on a large screen who needs to view the Mobile Website? Now I can view the Desktop Website.
4) Screen Size - 4.7 inches of magnificance, the LCD really makes the AMOLED look like it has catching up to do.
5) Single Core Processor - Better battery life, Windows 7.5 runs smooth on the cheapest of phones, dual core isn't necessary unlike the Android Powerhouse. I can get 2 days out of my Titan with ease.
6) Aluminium Case - Yes it's a bit of a pain to hold as it feels slippery but it really does give a nice finish.
7) People Hub - Bring together Facebook, Hotmail & Phone Contacts.
8) Office - WIN
9) Photosynth - Love taking 360 degree panorama photo's.
10) Bing Get Me there - Best Tube app ever.
11) Windows Phone 7.8 - We're not being left out in the dark! Resizable tiles is going to be awesome!
Things that I felt were average...
1) Navigation - Just isn't there unless your willing to pay £27 for Route 66. Granted it is unlimited. It does offer Bing Maps with step by step nagivation however. Get a Nokia if you want Navigation for free...
2) Updates - Still done via Microsoft Zune however the 7.8 will probably change that to OTA. Not a big deal though, also it means you have to install Zune software.
3) YouTube - Yes it doesn't have Adobe Flash and the app is just a link but YouTube has worked flawlessly for me and I have no Adobe Flash bugs to report. =D
Here is an expert review from Hardware Heaven who were skeptical at best about the Windows Phone OS + HTC Titan, they guessed again!

Finally the reason for 5 stars is because it's a lot of bang for buck. £275 for a masterpiece.

The techie stuff about this phone and the Windows Phone OS has been covered well by other reviewers; I just want to talk about the "size" issue.I've been using my Titan for about four months now, and simply would not go back to a phone with a smaller screen. Sure, if you move from an iPhone to this, it will feel weird at first and you will definitely notice it in your pocket! But it only took me a couple of weeks to feel really comfortable with it. Now, if I pick up an iPhone, it looks and feels like a child's plaything. For me, the Titan really is the ideal size for a phone. The nearest competition will be the upcoming Nokia Lumia 900 with a 4.3" screen (the Titan's is 4.7"), but that will be coming in at over £100 more than the Titan.
At its new lower price of £320, this is now cheaper on Amazon than its smaller sibling, the Radar (which I owned previously). It's a great phone at a great price.

I bought this product on a whim a few weeks back and I have not been disappointed with it. It's good for browsing, e-mail etc. It may be a little large for some hands however; the battery lasts for a day with "normal usage", and I do miss Java. This apart, it's a great piece of kit.
