well pleased with delivery, came before the estimated time, set up on the phone was ok, but needed an activation code to get accounts set up as you need a windows live/xbox account to set up. Managed to get the activation code from talking to Microsoft online, very helpful! the phone does everything I want it to do, its like having a mini computer at the touch of your hands. Only one downside to the phone is the battery life, its a little on the short side, but that depends on how much you are using it, so you might have to charge it at least once a day, or get a spare battery just in case. would still recommend to people.

Although I had an iPod touch (before it broke) prior to owning this phone, the HD7 was really my first smartphone. At the time, a lot of my friends were walking about with iPhones which A, were ridiculously expensive, and B, it seemed the price was unjustified for the features on it. This is why I took the decision to by a Windows Phone and I have never looked back.

I have owned the phone itself for almost a year now and has run flawlessly. The only ever issue I had was the memory card failing, but this was my fault as I tried to switch it to a bigger memory card (not recommended). Anyway, HTC fixed that even though I was really the cause of it. The screen is a great size and towards the larger end in the market. Clarity is fantastic and although WP7 lacks HD displays at the moment, I have never had any issues on the standard resolution.

For me, one of the best things about this phone is its robustness. You really get the feel of a quality product when you are holding it/using it. It has a good weight to it and can stand up to the daily wear and tears. The amount of iPhone's I have seen with cracked screens is ridiculous, never had any issues on the HD7.

Aside from the hardware, the OS, WP 7.5 is truly brilliant, it does not get the recognition it deserves. The people app for example is far superior to the layouts on both iOS and Android. When you open up a contact, you automatically get their Facebook, windows live, twitter, linkedin (and far more) activity. It is such a slick interface, everything is very intuitive to use and I have never been stuck. The app store is smaller than its rivals but it is growing, recently reaching 100,000 apps covering everything you could really want.

Considering this phone is what, a third of the price of an iPhone and much less than a Samsung Galaxy it really is a bargain. From my experience, I can see no noticeable drop in either features, or quality between the HD7 and its pricier counterparts.

This phone really is a great buy although it is worth bearing in mind that Windows Phone 8 will be released soon and this phone will not get the complete upgrade. There is an up and a down to this. The upside is the price of the HD7 is going to fall. On the other hand, the flagship WP8 model (the Nokia Lumia 920) packs much greater functionality and will, arguably, be the best smart phone on the market when it is released in October this year.

Lovely phone. Elegant design, smooth operation, no major bugs that need sorting out. Battery life is adequate and the large screen is a real pleasure to use. This phone has the best most responsive touchscreen I have ever come across - even better than the iPhone 4. Has an innovative "kick stand" at the back which is perfect for watching movies. The phone just exudes quality and class. A winner.

It's a really good smartphone, my first WP7.5 (I had a Galaxy S before)

The batery is OK, a day without any problem. GPS works fine and the OS works fine. You have to unlock and work a little to upgrade to 7.5 but is an easy process. The worst thing about the phone is the camera (Its not crap but... its not good enough) and the "Micro SD limitation" but this is not a problem of the mobile, its MS issue...

The rest... really perfect and... the price is awesome!

I have had this smartphone for 8 months now and I'm glad to say I've made the right choice. I did a lot of research before I acquired it -- the other alternatives [in UK] then being the 'LG Optimus 7' (one Amazon stock: LG E900 Optimus 7 Sim Free Windows 7 Mobile Phone - Black), and the 'Samsung Omnia 7' (one Amazon stock: Samsung I8700 Sim Free Mobile Phone). HTC HD7 being the largest in screen size and installed storage flash memory (at 16GB) was easy enough for me to opt for it. It is not to say that this handset has no weaknesses compared with the competition, but the weaknesses are not really important to me. For instance, Samsung's display is far superior but makes a difference only if you often use your phone in a glare. The battery life is not that great, but this is the case for all smartphones (because with battery-hungry large LCD displays they do demanding computation more like a pocket computer than an ordinary mobile) so we have to live with this downside.

For battery life, the best solution I can suggest is to have a spare battery and a desk charger. I recommend the following items which work well with this phone: 1) SAI Super Quality Desktop 3-In-1 Rapid Charger/Cradle/Data-Sync Docking Station For HTC HD 7 Mobile Phone, Vertical Style - Plus Slot For Extra Battery Charge - GUKCRHT12; and 2) HTC HD7 High Capacity Battery - EXTRA LONG LIFE 1500mAh - Exclusively sold by FAB2983, both of which I reviewed at 5-star rating, and in total should cost you under £25. With the spare battery and charger, there is always a fully charged battery waiting to be used (and on special occasions that demand snapshots and video clips you may want to charge both batteries and carry the spare - the size of which is well suited to a purse or pocket).

All handsets approved for Windows Phone 7, as the minimum, must meet clearly defined specs (stipulated by Microsoft), so in general you'll know what to expect. The notable ones are: multi-touch screen with 480x800 resolution; 6 dedicated hardware buttons (Power-on/Standby, Volume Up/Down, Camera, Back, Start, and Search); Accelerometer with compass (to detect movement and tilting useful for adjusting screen orientation to portrait or landscape, and really useful stuff in games as for gaming controllers); ambient light sensor (to control screen brightness); proximity sensor (for instance, for detecting when you put the handset near your ear so as to do clever things such as turning off the display to save battery); GPS (for location-aware and mapping apps), Gyroscope (same idea as Accelerometer but more precise in 3D); 5-Mpixel camera; and FM radio tuner. Some of these may not be supported at present (e.g., Gyroscope) or some of the minimum specs may be exceeded by some handsets (e.g., better camera pixel, more flash storage size than the minimum of 8GB as HTC HD7 does with 16GB storage, etc).

This review is about a handset and not the Windows Phone 7 operating system that runs on this handset. Obviously, you should be won over by Windows Phone 7 to want this smartphone. With the latest version now at 7.5, Windows Phone 7 is really getting better and better but a serious battle with Apple iOS and Google Android yet to happen. Interesting times ahead on how the three giants will battle it out ...

My only misgiving about this smartphone (I must say a recent afterthought) is that it doesn't have a front camera, nor do the alternative competitions for that matter, which is important for video calls. You may have heard recent news about Microsoft buying Skye, which means Skype video calls may be provided as standard on future release of Windows Phone 7 (of course, network operators who control the bandwidth agreeing to this and/or charging us more for the service!).

This is a robust and beautiful handset for which I have no reservation in recommending it.

2011-10-26 Update:
Nokia has just announced their first Windows Phone 7 handsets today -- a premium model, Nokia Lumia 800, and a less expensive model, Nokia Lumia 710. The Lumia 800 has 8-Mpixel camera (5-Mpixel for Lumia 710) and 16GB internal memory (8GB for Nokia Lumia 710). To my surprise, these handsets do not have a front camera I was expecting with new handsets -- Nokia's reason has been quoted somewhere on the net as: "... there just wasn't enough time to add it to the handsets". Phew!

Both handsets have screen size of 3.7" compared to 4.3" for HTC HD7. 'Turn-by turn navigation' is one added improvement with these handsets, and rumour has it that Nokia Lumia 800 may appear in UK this November.

HTC has just released a successor to HTC HD7 by the name TITAN (also goes by the name Eternity). Here is the Amazon stock of this handset: HTC TITAN Sim Free Windows 7.5 Smartphone. HTC Titan addresses all the wish-list of HD7 in that it has, among many improvements, a front camera, an improved 8 MPixel camera, 720p HD video recording, and DLNA interface to play your video/pictures/music on your DLNA compatible TV. If your TV is not DLNA compatible, HTC has provided a little gadget - the Titan Media Link DLNA Adaptor DG H100 - so that your TV can be adapted to the DLNA standard. Good show HTC!
